A2 "horsehide" US Air Force, Contract 42-1401-P
"The A2 is legendary"
No other flightjacket combines classic looks and functionality in the same way. Easy and plain
at first look it reveals at second sight many original and useful details that were revolutionary
in 1930 when first introduced. For example its one of the first jackets with a zipper,
easy handling and airtight as we today know.
|
The two front pockets are easily locked with push buttons as well as the collar with a button down lock.
Windproof sleeve ends and waistbands combined with sleek cut, this A2 jacket is the perfect wear for any
action in open and windy cockpits and for any flight manoeuvre. Originally made from
horse skin
and later manufactured with other leathers.
We added this special model made out of best
horse skin
to accomplish the first and original cut. Our A2 model is the best and most detailed copy of the
original from 1940. Manufactured according to military specifications from 1941 (Contract 42-1401-P).
The horse skin is cut
and sawed by hand according to old handcraft tradition This original jacket has a seamless and therefore
costly to produce back part. All details like the heavy duty zipper, the push buttons, the poly/cotton
inner lining are manufactured according to the severe specifications of the US Air Force.
A professional leather maker sticks to the production watching all steps from start to end. The
priority in production is not the speed and the quantities produced but the accurate workmanship
and the quality of the product. No more than 30 jackets are produced in a week time.
The producer has laid much attention to all details ensuring a perfect copy of the original. Costs
were completely neglected in this process. The ball push buttons for example had to be reproduced
in a quantity of 25.000 to ensure the quality needed.
The original Talon zipper was produced in 1943(!!) and long forgotten. Today its back working fine
as always in these jackets. The handpicked
horse skin in 1A
quality and is
vegetable tanned
in a classical tanning procedure that is nearly unaffordable nowadays. The leather skins are held
in the tanning liquid for more than 25-30 week.
The industrial tanning has taken over the traditional way of doing this long ago. The elegant cut
and the timeless form of this jacket has survived in 70 years all trends and fashions. According
to former original specifications this A2 reproduction has "military correct" no side pockets.
The A2 original flightjacket - a jacket for a lifetime.

G1 "Military" US Navy, modern day G1
The classic due to "military specifications"
When decided in 1950 to look for a new model replacing the 1940 M 422A flightjacket the entries were the
G1 and the G2. The G2 had no fur collar and that made the decision easy for the G1 as being the warmer
and better version.
|
Due to the special back design this jacket gives you extreme moving comfort as no other jacket can.
The "Bi-swing Action Back" with the added flexibility on the sides of the jacket is since 1940 until
today part of the specified G1 equipment for Navy pilots. The G1 adds two front pockets with a pen
holder on the left side and an inner closable pocket.
Our producer won with this jacket the first "modern day award for the US navy and marines G1 flyers
jacket".
An award that emphasizes the high quality standard.
The unbreakable and hand picked
goat hide
is water resistant and in combination with the heavy duty zipper this jacket is a reliable and
timeless companion. Our G1 goat hide is still produced according to the original military
specifications. For cost reason the military version is equipped with a synthetic collar - we decided
to go for the real fur version.
This jacket belongs to the standard equipment of most F 14 Tomcat, F18 Hornet and A6 Intruder pilots.

much better performance and bigger heights asked for these changes as the known garments could not coop
with these requirements.
